At Terry Bass, D.D.S., we understand the nature of dental fears. We also know from experience that people can vary greatly in their levels of anxiety and “trigger points” that may cause discomfort.
Our sleep dentistry practice offers three safe options for you to choose from. Depending on your level of anxiety and what you and Dr. Bass have discussed about this issue, any one of these sedation methods can help you get the dental care you need in a state of total relaxation. You can use sleep dentistry for all types of general, cosmetic, and neuromuscular dentistry treatments, including regular cleanings.
If you live in or around Edmond, Oklahoma, please call 405-848-7780 to begin exploring your sedation dentistry options.
- Oral Sedation – Also referred to as “conscious sedation with sedatives,” oral sedation involves taking a special medication before your dental treatment. In just a short amount of time after swallowing a safe pill, you will be in an extremely relaxed state. Most patients undergo treatment while awake, but have no memory of the treatment.
- Nitrous Sedation – If the nitrous sedation method is deemed your best option, you will inhale nitrous oxide or “laughing gas” before treatment. You are awake and responsive, but you will most likely not remember all of the actual procedure.
- IV Sedation – With IV sedation, sedative medication is delivered into your blood system intravenously. This fast-acting method is often preferred for patients with high levels of anxiety or people who may be resistant to the oral or nitrous methods. Most patients have no memory of treatment.
With all sedation sessions, you will need to have someone available to drive you home as the medications may take a few hours to wear off. During your initial consultation, Dr. Bass will discuss your concerns and recommend a suitable sedation option.
Fear of the dentist does not have to keep you from getting the important tooth and gum care you need to keep a healthy smile. Please contact Terry Bass, D.D.S. online or by phone at 405-848-7780 to learn more about your sedation dentistry choices.
