Questions about Sedation (Sleep) Dentistry

Edmond, Lawton, Norman, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Do I need sleep dentistry?

That all depends on your level of anxiety and your level of comfort with Dr. Bass, our Team, and the treatments we recommend for your teeth and gums. If you come in for an initial consultation, Dr. Bass can evaluate your needs and help you decide if sedation dentistry is the way to go.

Should I use sedation dentistry for every dental visit?

For many of our patients, sedation dentistry is used for the first few visits, until a certain level of comfort with our practice is reached. Some patients with high anxiety choose to utilize the sedation method of relaxation for every visit, including cleanings and minor treatments. The sedation medications we use are safe, so there is no limit on the amount of sessions you can undergo. During your first consultation, Dr. Bass can explain your options and make recommendations about the type of sedation and frequency.

Will I remember my procedure with sedation dentistry?

Most of our sleep dentistry patients have little or no memory of their sedation visit. You will need to have a friend or family member available to drive you home. The effects of the medication should wear off in just a few hours.

Is sleep dentistry uncomfortable or painful?

Most of our sleep dentistry patients feel no pain or discomfort during their visit. Depending on the procedure you are undergoing, sleep dentistry will not prevent any post-treatment soreness. Dr. Bass can prescribe medication to help you during the healing period if necessary.

How safe is sleep dentistry?

Sedation dentistry has been used to help patients relax and get necessary dental care for more than 30 years. The medications used are FDA-approved, and you are closely monitored throughout your treatment. Before your sedation appointment, Dr. Bass will explain the process and let you know what to expect on your appointment day.
