Questions about Porcelain Veneers
Edmond, Lawton, Norman, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are custom made shells that are placed over the front of teeth to improve appearance. They can be colored and molded to correct any number of common aesthetic issues.
What issues do porcelain veneers correct?
Because porcelain veneers cover unsightly teeth, they can be used to correct a number of cosmetic issues. The most common issues include:
- Teeth with gaps
- Uneven teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Chipped or cracked teeth
- Teeth that are worn down
- Discolored teeth
Dr. Bass will best be able to work with you to determine if porcelain veneers are suitable to your particular issues.
What are the advantages of porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers offer a stronger alternative to bonding without the tooth shaping and preparation required by crowns. They are also resistant to staining, allowing coffee and tea drinkers a longer lasting white, vibrant smile. Additionally, veneers are natural looking, so there is no appearance of discontinuity in the mouth.
What are the disadvantages of porcelain veneers?
While veneers provide a whiter smile, they cannot be further whitened, so it may be necessary to whiten your teeth prior to having veneers placed. Some personal habits, like clenching or grinding the teeth, may cause veneers to chip, or fall off, and they are not a good option for people with severely decayed teeth. Dr. Bass will go over all of your options for perfecting your smile during your initial consultation.
Do porcelain veneers take a long time to place?
Porcelain veneers are placed over three office visits. During your initial visit, Dr. Bass will show you your options, and the perfect match for your teeth will be picked. On the second visit, teeth are prepared for the veneers, an impression is taken for your new teeth, and you will be fitted with temporary veneers. Your new porcelain veneers will be placed during your third visit.
How long do porcelain veneers last?
You can expect your veneers to last at least five to ten years. If your veneers become chipped, cracked, or otherwise damaged, new veneers can easily be placed by Dr. Bass.
Will I need to take special care of my veneers?
Porcelain veneers are as easy to take care of as your natural teeth. Proper oral hygiene like brushing and flossing will be all the care they require.
