Questions about Dental Implants

Edmond, Lawton, Norman, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Will surgery be needed for a dental implant?

Yes. Two surgical procedures are required for a dental implant. During the first surgery (done in an outpatient basis), a titanium screw, which serves as the artificial tooth root, is implanted into the jaw bone and a temporary restoration is placed in the tooth gap. After the area is completely healed and the titanium implant grows into the jawbone, a process which can take a few months, a second surgery is performed to attach an abutment to the root. Once the area has again healed, the abutment is used to attach your brand new artificial tooth. The whole dental implant process can take up to nine months to complete, depending on your ability to heal.

Is the dental implant process painful?

There will be some discomfort involved after the procedures, as can be expected with any invasive surgery. However, implant dentist Dr. Bass utilizes advanced sedation methods and will apply local or general anesthesia during the procedures. To control discomfort during the healing process, pain medication will be prescribed.

How do I know what the results will look like?

Dr. Bass will show you many examples in Before and After pictures, and we can let you see a digital image of how your new dental implant will appear. Because modern technology has allowed us to further perfect the art of tooth recreation, today’s implants look and feel more like natural enamel than ever before. You can rest easy knowing that implant dentist Dr. Bass has helped thousands of Oklahoma City patients improve their smiles with dental implants and other advanced cosmetic dentistry procedures.

Can I pay for my dental implants in installments?

At the Lawton implant dentistry office of Dr. Terry Bass, we want to make sure all patients who want to do something about missing teeth have the right resources to make it happen. That is why we offer affordable financing to patients who qualify. CareCredit is a third-party healthcare financing company that you can use to pay for your dental implants or other services.

What are some alternatives to dental implants?

For a permanent, non-removable tooth-replacement solution that is anchored to an artificial tooth root, dental implants are the only treatment method that can recreate both the form and function aspects of a lost tooth. A fixed dental bridge is also a permanent solution, but is anchored to neighboring teeth instead of an artificial tooth root. For a removable option, you may want to consider full or partial dentures.

Do not let another day go by with a less-than-perfect smile. Dr. Bass and his implant dentistry Team can help you fill in missing teeth and correct other cosmetic dentistry problems.
