Enamel Erosion

Serving Patients in Oklahoma City, Edmond, Lawton, and Norman, OK

The erosion of tooth enamel occurs naturally with age. You can help protect your teeth against premature erosion by brushing with a soft bristled toothbrush after every meal, flossing twice a day, and visiting Oklahoma City dentist Dr. Terry Bass every six months for professional cleanings and examinations. You can further reduce risks by limiting your intake of highly acidic foods and beverages.

If you are looking for a dentist in Norman, Edmond, or surrounding areas of Oklahoma, please call Dr. Terry Bass at (405) 622-8996 to schedule an appointment today.

A new study has found that soda and fruit juice contribute to premature enamel erosion more than any other external factor. Examining dental erosion in more than 3,770 adult patients, researchers found that those with the highest level of erosion were those who drank soda and fruit juice on a daily basis. Those who drank these beverages occasionally or not at all experienced much lower levels of erosion and lower levels of tooth decay, sensitivity, and infection as well.

Is it necessary to avoid soda and fruit juice to maintain a healthy smile? Not entirely, but reducing your intake in combination with increased attention to your oral hygiene routine will help protect your smile for years to come.
